Following a Public Meeting held in May 2011 where ideas were put forward to develop the village of Clarecastle and its environs, a recommendation was made that a new development company should be established to bring the Community together to realise and co-ordinate many of these ideas.  An inaugural Board of Directors of the new development company was nominated and met for the first time in October 2011.

The inaugural Board established a company limited by guarantee, Clarecastle Community Development Ltd in November 2011 and undertook to run the company for a minimum of 18 months and oversee the formation of a sound structure with appropriate governance structures within that time. It also agreed to consult the whole Community of Clarecastle to identify key priorities for development in the area and initiate key development projects on the basis of its findings.
