The Unveiling of “Spirit of the Forest” in Ballybeg Woods Carmel Doherty, sculptor, Mary Coote-Ryan, Mayor of Ennis, Ger Dollard of Ennis Town Council and Eric Shaw, member of Clarecastle & Ballyea Heritage Group Mary Coote-Ryan, Mayor of Ennis, unveiled the “Spirit of the Forest”, sculptured by Carmel Doherty in memory of her late Mother, in Ballybeg Woods on Sunday 23 March 2014. The unveiling ceremony was hosted by the Clarecastle & Ballyea Heritage Group and the event was attended by a gathering of about 80 people. Fr. Brady and Fr. Fergal O’Neill blessed the sculpture and music was provided by Grace & Sarah Russell. Afterwards, Jean Ryan & Joan McCarthy of the Heritage Group gave guided walks in the Woods, pointing out features of the flora and fauna that can be found there. It is hoped that the installation of this fine piece of sculpture might lead to other pieces being placed along a sculpture trail in Ballybeg Woods and in other locations in Clarecastle/Ballyea Parish.
