Ballybeg Wood Bio Blitz 2016 was held on Saturday 7 May from 2 to 4pm. The group assembly in the carpark on the Rocky Road in anticipation of the stories of the Brown Bear of Edenvale Caves.

Despite a drop of soft rain, the bio-blitz in Ballybeg Woods was greatly enjoyed by all. The woods were looking splendid and the group was guided in a relaxed and informative by Jean. We saw Spring in all its glory, with the woods bathed in a green light from the young beech leaves and carpets of bluebells, violets and wood anemones. A jay was spotted and a tree-creeper.
A pheasant-berry plant was found that is not native to the woods. Perhaps birds helped to spread it from a nearby garden.

Thank you  Jean, for all the work in preparing for this and for sharing your love of the woods. All the children went home with prizes and sweets and will be dreaming of bears tonight. A great day was had by all.

We wish to acknowledge funding from the Clare County Local Agenda 21   and  also support  from CC Pastoral  Council who sponsored the printing.  There was also an anonymous sponsor of the prizes.
